About us

Inter-Culturel

Inter-Culturel is a design and project management office, a think tank, a project incubator and a network activator.

As a private and independent Rwandan consultancy firm Inter-Culturel provides (has expertise in) support, coordination and appraisal of projects and action programs, analysis and organizational consulting, and carries out surveys, monographs, exploratory studies and expert reports.

The specificity of our approach is to take into account the intercultural dimension of the projects and to set up cultural mediation mechanisms to facilitate communication between actors from heterogeneous worlds, and to dissipate the difficulties they may encounter in working together effectively.

Inter-culturel is a support structure for social, cultural and economic projects. It provides support, advice and assistance in the development and implementation of projects. We also intervene to strengthen the networking of the actors of the projects we support by trying to establish fruitful and sustainable links with partners.

Endowed with a scientific committee, Inter-Culturel also brings together think tanks and study groups working on different themes in a wide variety of fields. The diversity of the actors participating in these groups and the mechanisms put in place allow the emergence of a collective intelligence.

Study, survey and analysis:

In a perspective emphasizing interculturality, dialogue and exchange, mediation and the concern to respect the cultural identities and reference universes of each, we offer our services to companies, civil society organizations and NGOs as well as administrations.

In a change-oriented approach, we develop mechanisms to identify the levers and obstacles, but also to prevent and resolve the conflicts that arise during the implementation of the projects and programs submitted for our evaluation. In order to involve all stakeholders, we base our interventions on proven participatory approaches.

We carry out exploratory studies, an essential prerequisite for any reflection on a new problem or issue. Documentary research, holistic, thematic or comparative analysis, case studies, individual interviews, focus groups or retrospective and prospective workshops are commonly used methods, resulting in a monograph or a detailed report that allows guidelines for reflection and research, but also hypotheses for action.

To identify needs and expectations, opinions and perceptions, we carry out qualitative and statistical surveys, based on interviews and questionnaires. This qualitative as well as quantitative data collection leads to statistical analysis and processing.

What we do:

⇨ collect and analyze data;
⇨ carry out expert reports and thematic dissertations;
⇨ carry out qualitative and quantitative surveys, in the field, online or on digital media;
⇨ coordinate and evaluate schemes, projects and programs;
⇨ advise our clients in managing their projects and optimizing tools and procedures;

Our approach of the assessment, beyond a statement of the effects of a policy, a program or a project, proposes :

⇒ to identify the processes that are at the origin of the effects and results identified;
⇒ to make evaluation a participatory process that engages all stakeholders;
⇒ to reach a shared diagnosis that allows for a positive dynamic;

Cultural Mediation:

Our specific approach is to take into account the intercultural dimension of the projects. Too often projects involving partners from heterogeneous worlds fail and do not achieve the objectives initially set: partners stumble either by the illusion of sharing the same concerns, values and objectives, or by the feeling of not being able to understand each other and establish a common basis for acting together.

Inter-Culturel thus sets up cultural mediation mechanisms to facilitate communication between actors from heterogeneous worlds and dissipate the difficulties of working together.

Our practice of mediation is based on the apprehension of the singularities of ways of thinking and relating, of aspirations, of ways of doing things... It proposes a device for translating each person’s experience, bringing into play the translatable and the untranslatable, the unsuspected affinities and the irreducible gaps in these experiences. This process minimizes misunderstandings and maximizes the conditions for encounter and effective joint action.

Our interventions :

⇨ conflict prevention and resolution, in an inter-cultural approach
⇨ mediation (mapping of stakeholders, facilitation of relationships)

Projects Incubation:

As a support structure for social, cultural and economic projects, Inter-culturel provides support, advice and assistance in the development and implementation of projects.

Inter-culturel also intervenes to strengthen the networking of the actors of the projects we support, trying to establish profitable and sustainable links with potential partners.

What we do:
⇨ advise and accompany the development of projects
⇨ help with the implementation of projects
⇨ establish links and synergy between actors;

Think tank :

Endowed with a scientific committee, Inter-Culturel is also a think tank or laboratory of ideas, bringing together think tanks and study groups dealing with different themes.
The diversity of the actors participating in these think tanks and the mechanisms we implement to facilitate the elaboration of ideas and dialogue between participants allow for the emergence of a collective intelligence that deals with the issues addressed in an objective and sometimes original way.

What we do:
⇨ facilitation of focus groups
⇨ setting up of tools and devices allowing the construction of a collective intelligence of the problems worked on
