Exploratory study

monographs, exploratory studies & expert reports

The exploratory study is an essential prerequisite for any reflection on a new problem or a new issue.

Initial collection of information and preliminary research before the analysis, the exploratory study makes it possible to define the techniques, the tools and the methods of investigation and analysis most adequate to answer a posed problem.

It makes it possible to integrate its complexity and to identify the processes at stake as the mobilized and impacted relevant stakeholders, but also to replace it in its own background and temporality.

Documentary research, holistic, thematic or comparative analysis, case studies, individual interviews, discussion groups or retrospective or prospective workshops are commonly used methods.

The exploratory study gives rise to a monograph or a detailed report that allows for the formulation of lines of thought and research as well as hypotheses for action.
